Nine Things I take Immediately when I Feel Sick

I RARELY Ever Get Sick.

And this isn’t by coincidence! Over the years, I have been researching and finding ways to stay healthy, and ways to become less likely to fall ill. People begin to go into panic mode, whenever flu season begins to rev up and into gear. When you have the proper knowledge about your own body, there is nothing to be afraid of. I’m around people and children very often, almost everyday, and I very rarely contract some type of cold… And by rarely, I mean once a year! By adjusting your diet and the supplements you take in, you too can lower your chances of catching the flu or becoming paranoid when around others who are sick. Here are nine things that I take the moment I start to feel like I may be getting sick!

Apple Cider Vinegar

Don’t worry! It’s not nearly as bad as it sounds. You can create your own diluted version of apple cider vinegar, or you can test your will by ingesting the heavily concentrated version at your local grocery store. I, personally, turn to Amazon where they have a very awesome “gummy bear” version of this supplement. Although it smells horrible, if you eat it fast enough, you won’t notice it much at all. The purpose of apple cider vinegar is to rid your body of any toxins. It does this quite quickly for me, but it may have a different effect on others. I’m not a fan of the taste that apple cider vinegar offers, but the benefits outweigh the not-so-pleasant taste. I take this supplement once a day, and this supplement is a major contributor to keeping my immune system strong and my body free of any harmful toxins.

Onions.

Yes, I literally eat onions. Many years ago, I remember hearing a sermon that highlighted all of the powerful fruits and vegetables that we should be including into our diet. At this time I was only thinking about transitioning to a vegan diet; I hadn’t done it yet. Fresh cut, raw onions have the ability to heal your body and also detox your body of toxins. I was kind of unsure whether or not it was worth it, so I did some research for myself. I began including raw, fresh cut onions into my diet. My skin began clearing up very quickly, and felt a lot softer. I’ve always had issues with acne, surrounding my menstrual cycle, so including these fresh onions into my diet, helped clear up my acne and keep my skin bright and soft. I’ve compared my skin whenever I include onions and exclude onions from my diet, and trust me, I will continue to eat as many onions as I can!… With a few breath mints of course.

Kombucha.

I know you’ve heard of this one. If you’re not already drinking a couple glasses of kombucha a week, you’re missing out on a great life, my friend. I’ve been drinking kombucha since my freshman year of college, and it has made my immune system almost impenetrable. Kombucha can either be bought in-store or you can make it at home by yourself! Granted it does take quite a few weeks to make, its much cheaper and less carbonated when you make your own. If you would like to make your own, but are unsure where to start, your local grocery story (or Amazon) is more than likely to have kombucha making kits, so that you can boost your immune system for much less. The reason kombucha is so special, is because you’re literally drinking bacteria (stay with me), but you’re doing this so that your immune system can process this bacteria and become even stronger than it was before. One disclaimer that I always tell people, is to not drink kombucha is you’re already sick, unless it contains ginger! You don’t want to consume more bacteria while your body is trying to fight it off! If you’re already sick, there are many more items to this list you can try, but if you’re slowly falling ill or can feel a cold coming on, you’re in the clear to drink all the kombucha you want!

Whole Oranges.

I never drink orange juice from the store, because I honestly don’t trust what’s in it. Some of these juices are so concentrated and full of acid, that it actually makes me sick! One thing that I do whenever I know I’m going to be around a lot of people or after I return from being around many people, is eat one or two oranges. Oranges take care of the job themselves, so you don’t need to worry about whether or not you’re going to get sick. Take a deep breath, and have a delicious orange! They contain enough Vitamin C to fight off anything you might’ve picked up while at a group function or event. Eating whole fruits themselves are the best supplements that exist. Instead of worrying about sugars and calories, peel an orange. They were created and grown for a reason, and that reason is to ensure that we live a happy and healthy life. There’s no need to break the bank on Vitamin C supplements, when you can pick up a bag of oranges for just a couple dollars!

Matcha Green Tea / Black Tea

The benefits of matcha green tea are endless, and it is much more accessible than you think. Starbucks serves their own matcha green tea iced or hot! Your choice. You can also purchase your own matcha green tea making kit online or from any grocery store. I’ve had a lot of experience drinking matcha green tea, and there is a such thing as drinking too much matcha green tea. If you order from Starbucks, I highly suggest that you order a tall or no larger than a grande. This is a very strong detoxification tea, and drinking too much of it will definitely overwhelm your body and make you miserable. If you’re looking for a version with less sugar, I suggest making your own at home. Having no more than one cup of tea per day, to prevent what was mentioned before. Black tea also has some amazing benefits. I’m not as experienced with Black tea, but I know it contains antioxidants that are good for your body as well. Black tea is a lot more common and is easily found in any of your local grocery stores.

Immunity Gut Shots

These are a life saver! These are found in higher-quality grocery stores, such as Publix, Kroger, or Giant Eagle, etc. They are located in the produce/juice section of the store. They are very tiny bottles that may seem pricey, but the benefits are instantaneous. Simply taking one ginger shot or one immune system shot, will immediately clear up any type of stomach problems you might be having. I remember last year, I was having some weird stomach issues, and nothing was helping. I drove over to The Juice Bar, and ordered a ginger shot with a pineapple chaser, because it doesn’t taste very good. Within ten minutes, my stomach was fine. During one of my visits to the Juice Bar, I saw “Chrisley Knows Best” celebrity Chase Chrisley there and he ordered one of each gut shot. I personally can’t do more than one at a time; I’ve tried, but if you’re feeling brave, go for it.

Iron Supplements

Almost everyone knows that I’m anemic, so I have to take iron supplements no matter what. There are other ways to increase your iron intake without having to purchase supplements. Consuming spinach, kale, broccoli, and other greens are sure to give your body a boost in iron. I, personally, prefer all of these cooked and not raw, so I may have a spinach dish cooked in olive oil, a kale salad, or roasted broccoli with mini potatoes. My iron levels drop during various parts of my menstrual cycle, so remembering to include these in my diet is extremely important. If you’re unable to include these foods into your diet consistently, then I suggest you also take an iron supplement to prevent yourself from feeling miserable.

Liquid IV / Gatorade

A drink I can highly recommend if you’re feeling you maybe be sick, or if you are already sick, is Liquid IV. This drink has worked miracles for me and my family. There was a time when my mother had food poisoning, and I mailed her a packaged of Liquid IV. Within a few hours, she was feeling much better. A few weeks later, I got food poisoning, and she sent me one as well. There isn’t any secret recipe to Liquid IV, it simply replenishes your body of any fluids while you are sick. It contains the same nutrients that are put into your body from a hospital IV, minus the hospital bill! In the case where you’d rather have something more affordable, Gatorade is also a great option. Gatorade is used by athletes everywhere to help replenish their fluids. I personally don’t favor drinking gatorade, because of the high sugar and sodium content, but if neither of those a concern, then gatorade gets the job done as well.

Cucumber Water

This is the last item on my list, but it is the most important item on my list. Cucumber water is my life source when it comes to remaining healthy and feeling refreshed. Cucumbers also detoxify and cleanse the body. Some people prefer lemon water, which is equally as amazing, but for me, cucumber water is where it’s at. I go absolutely crazy over cucumber water. I drink so much of it, to the point where I’m literally always out of cucumber water. Not only does it detox your body, but it cleanses your palette and freshens your breathe to a cool crisp feeling. It’s perfect for any day, and it truly does cleanse your body from toxins and bacteria. Cucumber tastes amazing, and I would be remiss if I didn’t share this amazing and inexpensive drink with you all.

Nothing is Guaranteed to Keep You From Getting Sick.

But all of these are guaranteed to help you from getting sick! Everyone’s body is different and we are all vulnerable to different things. Due to research and different steps I’ve taken over the years, I am far less likely to get sick than most people. I mentioned all of these items to help you in your own wellness journey and to possibly prevent you from getting sick as well. People often ask what’s keeps me going or what keeps me from getting sick, and all of the things mentioned above are what help me. My goal is to be as transparent as possible, in order to help others improve their own way of living as well. The more I learn, the more I am willing to share with others. I see this blog as a resource for people to receive encouragement, advice, and inspiration to keep them focused on their goals and to continue to be the best version of themselves.
