Reviewing Canonsburg's Newest Shoppes Part II
After we had visited the last three shoppes in Canonsburg, we decided we had to come back and check out a few more, once it had finished snowing of course. Carly and I take on downtown Canonsburg (again) and try out these places for our very first time. Carly is one of my amazing friends from high school. We both attended Canon-McMillan School District and were heavily involved in marching band. Carly and I have always loved playing video games, shopping, and trying out new restaurants together. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to reunite with her, and I’m thankful Carly was able to join me and make this experience all the more fun!
Linda’s Hometown Bakery
Linda’s Hometown Bakery is the cutest little bakery right in the heart of Pike Street. Carly and I actually visited Linda’s twice on two different occasions- I honestly just kept coming back for their pumpkin cake alone. Linda’s has been operating in Canonsburg since 2021. They offer lunch and dinner meals as well as baked goods. Linda’s has a selection of lunch sandwiches that are made fresh in the morning. They also make stuffed peppers, meatballs, sausage gravy, and many things I love dearly. They are open every day, except Mondays, from 7am to 3pm. Linda’s baked goods vary, depending on the week and season, as sweets do sell out fairly quickly. They have a variety of donuts, cupcakes, cakes, brownies, baklava, pumpkin gobs, pumpkin rolls, pepperoni rolls, bread, and more.
Linda’s will be having a “Thank You” event this coming Saturday on November 26th. Santa will be present at Linda’s and children will have the opportunity to take photos with him. Donations are optional and will be given to Canonsburg’s Emergency Services for the holidays. I was able to get myself pumpkin cake for the evening, while Carly was able to get brownies and chocolate gobs for her family. The prices at Linda’s a very cheap, a slice of cake was $3 even. This is an awesome bakery to get a lot of desserts for your friends and family for a very good price.
Chicco Baccello
Chicco Baccello is a very large and chic coffee shop located in downtown Canonsburg on Pike Street. This coffee shop was established in 2022 and has another shop located in Washington on Main Street. This coffee shop has a very festive and warm ambience that invited us to sit down and stay awhile during both of our visits. They offer a selection of signature coffee, biscotti’s, cookies, and cannoli’s! Chicco Baccello has a menu of different sandwiches that offer vegetarian and vegan options as well. This cafe is a wonderful place to meet friends, get some homework down, or even host an event. The cafe is very lively but not to the point where it becomes overwhelming. This cafe offers a lot of different seating all throughout the building, so you have plenty of room to relax and enjoy yourself. I tried their iced “Nutella” latte and fell in love. This latte tasted so original, and unlike anything I’ve ever had at the many coffee shops I’ve visited all over. Their coffee and sandwiches are handcrafted and customizable, which makes any coffee shop more enjoyable.
Their festive cannoli’s and signature biscotti are what is currently the talk of the town. I ordered three of their Christmas themed, and they were gone by the time Carly and I had finished our shopping spree. They currently still have Autumn themed shells, just in case you’re not ready to get into the Christmas spirit yet. It’s best if you try to get them as early as possible, because the first time we went, they were out of cannoli cream. Thankfully, we went earlier next time and actually got the very last of their cannoli cream supply. I personally love this cafe and look forward to visiting as often as I can whenever I’m in town. In case some of you aren’t aware, I’m a bit of an introverted bookworm and I always have a lot of writing to get done. Do yourself and favor and treat yourself to coffee and sweets at this cafe during the holiday season.
Rusty Gold Brewing
Finally, we made our way over to Rusty Gold Brewing. This is a restaurant I had been hearing about nonstop since I arrived in Pittsburgh, even my chiropractor told me I had to visit during my stay. Carly and I decided to take on the hype and head inside. We arrived around lunchtime, and thankfully, it was not very busy. This place does get very busy around dinner time, so I do suggest coming in earlier. By the time we got to Rusty Gold Brewing, I was starving. I wanted to try several different things I’d heard about on their menu, so I went ahead and ordered their fried pickles, loaded fries, and hot garlic parm wings.
Their portions were unreal, and the food was so delicious. The loaded fries lacked absolutely nothing; they were definitely loaded. The fries were perfectly crispy, topped with melted cheese and a lot of bacon. The fried pickles kept me company for a while, as the server let me know that they were too hot to bite into at first. They served the fried pickles with ranch and a house made aioli sauce, that was very rich and the only thing I wanted to eat the pickles with.
The wings were absolutely phenomenal. I’m a huge fan of garlic parmesan, and these were the best garlic parm wings I’ve ever had. They wings were very crispy and had the perfect kick to them. Unfortunately, this was a lot of very heavy food, so we did not feel great afterwards, but thankfully they offer hefty takeaway containers. The food was delicious, and the beer was very crisp and fresh as well. This is an awesome place to go on a Friday night after a long work week with friends. I highly suggest, and always will, the spicy garlic parmesan wings. Rusty Gold Brewing was established in 2016 and has truly made a great impact on Canonsburg so far. Their food is wonderful, and they have a vast selection of beer and other alcoholic beverages to try. The staff are very friendly, and they have a jukebox where you can play any kind of music that you prefer. This is definitely a spot I will have to visit again whenever I’m with friends in town.
